BATH, NY — A 44-year-old man faces multiple felony charges following a months-long investigation into alleged sexual offenses against a child.

Scott G. Watkins, of Bath, was arrested Dec. 9 by the Village of Bath Police Department.

He is charged with attempted rape in the first degree, a class C felony; sexual abuse in the first degree, a class D felony; criminal sex act in the first degree, a class B felony; and two counts of unlawful surveillance in the second degree, a class E felony.

The arrest stems from a reported sexual offense against a child that occurred in August at Watkins’ home on East William Street in the Village of Bath.

Police determined Watkins subjected a female victim under 11 years old to multiple forms of sexual contact and attempted sexual intercourse with the victim while she was asleep as a guest in his home.

Investigators also determined Watkins unlawfully surveilled multiple female victims under 11 years old using a hidden security camera in a bedroom.

Watkins was processed and transported to Steuben County Jail for arraignment, where he was remanded on $2,000 bail.

He posted bail and was released after spending a few hours in jail.

The arrest resulted from collaboration between the Village of Bath Police Department, Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, Hornell Police Department, Steuben County District Attorney’s Office, Steuben County Child Protective Services and the Child Advocacy Center.

The investigation remains ongoing and additional charges are expected following forensic review of Watkins’ technological devices.
