MERIDEN, CT — A former Maloney High School teacher turned herself in to police Dec. 2 on charges of sexually assaulting a student.
Ciara Picard, 39, of Meriden, faces five counts of second-degree sexual assault in violation of Connecticut General Statutes 53a-71.
The charges stem from an inappropriate relationship that occurred several years ago between Picard and a student while she was employed as a teacher at Maloney High School, according to the Meriden Police Department Special Crimes Unit.
Picard resigned from her position in August.
The school district contacted police to investigate after receiving word of the allegations involving the former teacher and a graduate of Maloney High School.
Picard was released after posting a $25,000 court-set bond.
She is scheduled to appear Dec. 16 at Meriden Superior Court.
