Attempted burglary to vehicles in Summit

SUMMIT, NJ — Police are investigating an attempted burglary to two vehicles that occurred overnight on Larned Road.

Officers responded to the residence at approximately 8:15 a.m. on Dec. 8 for a report of the incident.

The resident told police that Ring camera surveillance footage showed two suspects wearing dark-colored sweatsuits and masks walking up her driveway at approximately 3:40 a.m.

The suspects attempted to gain entry into a 2024 Audi Q7 and a 2019 BMW X5, but both vehicles were locked.

The suspects were then observed running back to Larned Road near Watchung Place.

No attempt was made to enter the home.

Police said the department has observed an uptick in burglaries to motor vehicles, attempted burglaries to motor vehicles and stolen vehicles entering the city over the last several weeks.

Several jurisdictions in the region have also had burglaries to occupied residences.
