Two arrested on theft, drug charges in Manchester

MANCHESTER, CT — Two men were arrested Thursday evening following a shoplifting incident at Target on Buckland Hills Drive.

South Windsor Police responded to a larceny in progress at 125 Buckland Hills Drive at 5:39 p.m. on Dec. 5.

During the investigation, police determined Anthony G. Avery, 57, of Hartford, was acting as a lookout for Syrus Bajnathsingh, 28, of Bolton, who stole approximately $209 worth of merchandise.

A search of Avery revealed a glass pipe on his person.

Avery was charged with use of drug paraphernalia and conspiracy to commit larceny in the sixth degree.

He was processed and held on a $25,000 surety bond and was scheduled to appear in Manchester Superior Court Friday morning at 9 a.m.

A search of Bajnathsingh yielded 1.2 grams of fentanyl.

Bajnathsingh attempted to deceive police by identifying himself as a family member.

He was charged with possession of a controlled substance, larceny in the sixth degree, criminal impersonation and interfering with an officer.

Bajnathsingh also had six active failure to appear arrest warrants.

He was processed and held on a total bond of $175,000 and was scheduled to appear in Manchester Superior Court Friday morning.
