JAMESTOWN, NY — Police arrested a man on drunken driving charges after he allegedly struck a utility pole and fled the scene early Sunday morning.
Officers responded to the area of Hallock Street and Chapel Street at around 1:06 a.m. Nov. 30 for a report of a leaving the scene accident.
Upon arrival, officers found a utility pole that was nearly sheared in half.
Officers reviewed security camera footage from nearby residences and identified a suspect vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed before losing control and striking the pole.
Officers tracked the vehicle’s path through snow-covered roads and located it at a residence a short distance away.
Officers made contact with the registered owner, Ronald T. Troutman, of Jamestown.
The investigation revealed that Troutman had been operating the vehicle at the time of the accident while intoxicated.
Troutman was taken into custody and transported to the Jamestown City Jail without incident.
He is charged with driving while intoxicated and issued uniform traffic tickets for leaving the scene of a property damage accident, unsafe speed and moved from lane unsafely.
Troutman was held pending arraignment.
