Two additional men charged in Maywood armed robbery

MAYWOOD, NJ — Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of Daiker Yair Rivero Urbano, 28, of Detroit, Michigan, and criminal charges filed against Christian Ricardo Vera Castillo, 26, of Brooklyn, New York, in connection with an armed robbery in Maywood in 2024.

The investigation has spanned 19 months by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Maywood Police Department.

Four men were previously arrested in connection with the case: Beiker A. Aguilera Areyan, Daniel A. Rivas-Alvarado, Yeison J. Amarante Bolivar and Jhon C. Requena Yerena.

The armed robbery occurred on April 23, 2024, at a jewelry store on West Pleasant Avenue in Maywood.

Two male suspects entered the business and brandished firearms, pointing them at an employee and customer inside the store.

One of the suspects grabbed the employee and a brief struggle ensued.

The two suspects fled the store, leaving behind duct tape and zip ties.

Detectives determined several additional suspects were involved in planning and executing the armed robbery.

The suspects used two moped-style motorcycles and a motor vehicle to travel to and from the scene.

The four previously arrested men were located and charged between June 2024 and October 2024.

Three of those men remain in custody in the Bergen County Jail.

Amarante Bolivar remains held by Florida authorities pending extradition to Bergen County.

Rivero Urbano was charged with two counts of first-degree armed robbery, second-degree conspiracy to commit robbery, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

Vera Castillo was charged with two counts of first-degree armed robbery, second-degree conspiracy to commit robbery, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and two counts of fourth-degree aggravated assault.

On Nov. 5, Rivero Urbano was located and apprehended in Detroit with assistance from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Customs & Border Protection.

On Nov. 19, Rivero Urbano was extradited to Bergen County and is currently detained in the Bergen County Jail.

Vera Castillo remains a fugitive from justice.
