TOWN OF TONAWANDA, NY — A Buffalo woman was arrested on felony driving while intoxicated charges after police found her vehicle stopped with its passenger side tires over a curb with four children in the back seat.
Jakia Turner, 29, of Buffalo, was arrested at approximately 10:45 p.m. on Nov. 16 on Military Road near Shephard Avenue.
Officers observed Turner’s vehicle stopped with four children aged 1 to 11 years old in the back seat with no child safety seats or seat belts.
An investigation led to Turner’s arrest for driving while intoxicated.
Turner refused to take a chemical test to determine her blood alcohol content.
Officers found an illegally loaded firearm hidden in the passenger compartment during a vehicle inventory.
Turner was charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated under Leandra’s Law, Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
Turner was arraigned in Town of Tonawanda Justice Court on Nov. 17 and remanded to the Erie County Holding Center.
Kenneth L. Milon Jr., 26, of Buffalo, a passenger in the vehicle, was also charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon for the illegally loaded firearm.
Milon was arrested on Nov. 17 and also charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance for possessing illegal narcotics.
Milon is in custody at the Town of Tonawanda Police Department, awaiting arraignment in Town of Tonawanda Justice Court on Nov. 18 at 5:30 p.m.
