ROSELLE, NJ — A five-alarm fire damaged three homes early this evening, according to Fire Chief Christopher Laba.

The Roselle Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a house fire and encountered heavy fire conditions involving the primary structure and extending into two exposure homes upon arrival.

Due to the volume of fire and rapid spread, crews established an exterior attack and began operating multiple hose lines to protect exposures and bring the fire under control.

Command transmitted a second alarm, and mutual aid was requested through Union County.

Multiple surrounding municipalities responded to assist with the large-scale incident, which ultimately escalated to a five-alarm fire.

The Roselle Police Department, OEM, the American Red Cross and several county agencies assisted on scene to ensure the safe relocation and support of affected residents.

The incident resulted in significant property loss.

No civilian injuries were reported.

One firefighter sustained a minor arm injury.

The incident is currently under investigation to determine the cause and origin due to the size and complexity of the fire.

Officials are coordinating efforts with Mayor Shaw to provide assistance to all affected families.
