Man arrested after brandishing hatchet at officers in Everett

EVERETT, MA — A man was arrested after brandishing a two-headed hatchet at police officers responding to an assault report.

Officers responded to Ellsworth Street on Nov. 12 for a report of a past assault.

When officers arrived, they encountered Maxwell Rawles, 23, of Everett.

While attempting to engage the suspect, he leaned over and brandished a two-headed hatchet at the responding officers.

One officer drew his firearm and another officer drew a taser.

Rawles stepped toward the officers with the hatchet and was struck with the taser probes, which caused him to drop the ax.

He removed the probes and continued to refuse to comply.

Officers used pepper spray and were able to place him in custody.

At the scene he was given medical aid and transported to the station.

Sgt. Lavey, Officer C. Flores and Officer Hill managed the incident with no further injuries.

On Oct. 28, detectives assigned to the Street Crime Intelligence Unit were conducting street level narcotic surveillance and enforcement in the area of Everett Square.

After drug related observations were made, a motor vehicle stop was initiated.

Edwin Olarte-Barrientos, 34, of Malden, was placed under arrest for possession of a Class B substance (cocaine) with intent to distribute.

On Oct. 29, detectives assigned to the SCIU again conducted street level narcotics enforcement by conducting an investigative operation in the area of Everett Square.

Nicolee Chavez Gomez, 18, of Somerville, was placed under arrest for distribution of a Class B substance (cocaine) and possession of a Class B substance (cocaine) with intent to distribute.

On Nov. 4, the Revere Special Investigation Unit executed a search warrant as part of a joint investigation with Everett SCIU and Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department at 30 Ferry St.

The operation led to a seizure of 51 grams of fentanyl, 15 grams of crack cocaine, 22 grams of cocaine, 354 grams of methamphetamine and over $6,000 in U.S. currency.

Cesar Rodney Villar Andujar, 31, of Everett, was arrested without incident and charged with two counts of trafficking Class B and one count trafficking Class A.

On Nov. 10, the Revere Special Investigation Unit executed a search warrant as part of a joint investigation with Everett police and Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department at 80 Sumner Street in Revere.

The operation led to a seizure of approximately 38 grams of cocaine and the arrest of one individual.

Carlos Fernando Sologaistoa Alvarado, 33, of Revere, was arrested without incident and charged with trafficking a Class B substance (cocaine).
