CHITTENANGO, NY — The Chittenango Volunteer Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Harsh Road on Sunday afternoon.
Police and Madison County EM2 arrived on scene first and rescued one occupant from the residence at 1:36 p.m.
Chittenango fire chiefs arrived shortly after to find heavy fire coming from the front porch of the residence and declared a working structure fire at 1:45 p.m.
Crews pulled hand lines to extinguish the fire while others laddered the structure and established a water supply.
After the fire was knocked down, crews ventilated the residence and extinguished hot spots.
The residence was turned over to police and fire investigators four hours later, and all units were returned to service.
Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including North Chittenango Volunteer Fire Co., Bridgeport Fire Department, Cazenovia Fire, Fayetteville Fire, Manlius Fire, Madison County EMS, Madison County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police.
The Red Cross also responded to the scene.
Cazenovia Fire stood by at the Chittenango station and responded to calls during the incident.
