PIERCEFIELD, NY — New York State Police responded to a report of a possible accident on Massawepie Road in the town of Piercefield on Nov. 6 at approximately 6:30 a.m.
Upon arrival, troopers located a red 2022 International Harvester tow truck and the operator, identified as Marc R. Counter, 74, of Tupper Lake, unresponsive inside the vehicle.
A preliminary investigation determined Counter had been traveling east on State Route 3 in Piercefield when he suffered a medical emergency, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and strike a guardrail along the east shoulder.
Troopers initiated CPR until Tupper Lake EMS arrived and continued lifesaving measures.
Counter was pronounced deceased on scene.
The investigation remains ongoing.
