Woman flees crash scene in Helmetta

HELMETTA, NJ — An 80-year-old bicyclist remained in critical but stable condition after being struck by a vehicle Saturday on Main Street.

The Jamesburg Police Department responded to the crash near Old Forge Road at approximately 12:36 p.m.

The bicyclist sustained serious bodily injuries and was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick by Spotswood EMS and Robert Wood Johnson paramedics.

The driver, a 99-year-old woman, fled the scene and was quickly located by the Spotswood Police Department.

The Jamesburg Police Department and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating the crash.

Main Street was temporarily closed while officers conducted the on-scene investigation.
