BRICK TOWNSHIP, NJ — A 20-year-old woman has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing her 2-year-old brother.
Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced Saturday that Marlene Rodriguez, of Brick Township, was charged with attempted murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and endangering the welfare of a child.
Officers from the Brick Township Police Department responded to a residence on Burke Lane at approximately 2:30 p.m. Saturday following a 911 call.
Responding officers found a 2-year-old boy with a stab wound to his chest.
The child was transported to Jersey Shore University Hospital in Neptune, where he is listed in stable condition.
An investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Brick Township Police Department Detective Bureau and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit revealed that Rodriguez was responsible for the stabbing.
Rodriguez was taken into custody at Brick Township Police Headquarters and transported to the Ocean County Jail, where she is being held pending a detention hearing.
