PENN YAN, NY — A Yates County correction officer was arrested on a driving while intoxicated charge after reporting to work at the county jail.
Bruce J. Hansen, 32, of Penn Yan, was taken into custody at the Yates County Public Safety Building on Oct. 29 at 3:30 p.m.
Corrections staff reported to supervisors that Hansen appeared to be under the influence of alcohol when he arrived for his shift around 3 p.m.
An investigation determined Hansen had consumed alcohol before driving to work in his personal vehicle.
Hansen was administered standardized field sobriety tests and taken into custody.
He submitted to a chemical test and was processed and released on Uniform Traffic Tickets.
Hansen is scheduled to appear in Penn Yan Village Court at a later date.
Hansen was charged with driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content of .08% or greater.
His employment with the sheriff’s office was immediately terminated.
