FLORHAM PARK, NJ — Police arrested one suspect found hiding on a roof and are searching for a second after a burglary at a commercial property on Hanover Road on Sunday.
Sergeant Jared Orgel observed two suspects actively burglarizing and stealing from a business while operating a commercial van just after 11:30 p.m.
The suspects immediately fled on foot in different directions when they observed Orgel’s unmarked vehicle, with one being seen running back into the building.
Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to assist with establishing a perimeter and conducting a search.
The Morris County Sheriff’s Office responded with K-9, patrol and drone operation units, and their K-9 units entered the building with officers to conduct a search.
While performing an interior search, Madison and Sheriff’s officers heard noises from the roof.
The East Hanover Police Department provided a drone operation team that located a suspect hiding on the roof.
Officers took that suspect into custody without further incident or injury.
The second suspect was last seen fleeing on foot into a wooded area but was not captured.
The incident began earlier Sunday when day shift patrol took a report from the commercial property stating that unknown suspects had burglarized the property, caused damage and removed a large quantity of material.
Police recovered the vehicle used in the crime and a quantity of stolen proceeds.
The investigation is ongoing by the Florham Park Detective Bureau.
