Wurtsboro man charged with assault after domestic dispute turns violent

WURTSBORO — Troopers from the New York State Police Wurtsboro barracks responded to a report of a domestic dispute at a residence on Pine Street in the Village of Wurtsboro on Sept. 23 at approximately 11:57 a.m.

An investigation revealed that Timmy A. Bonilla, age 32, of Wurtsboro, was involved in a verbal domestic dispute with a 39-year-old female that escalated into a physical altercation.

During the incident, a 21-year-old male present at the residence attempted to intervene and was subsequently stabbed by Bonilla.

The 21-year-old victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Garnet Health Medical Center for treatment.

Troopers responded promptly and arrested Bonilla without incident.

Bonilla was charged with assault in the 2nd degree, intent to cause physical injury with a weapon, a Class D felony.

He was also charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the 3rd degree, previous conviction, a Class D felony.

Additionally, Bonilla was charged with tampering with physical evidence, conceal/destroy, a Class E felony.

Following his arrest, Bonilla was transported to State Police Wurtsboro for processing.

While at the station, he was evaluated by EMS for a wrist injury and subsequently transported to Garnet Health Medical Center for further medical evaluation.

Upon his release from the hospital, Bonilla was returned to State Police Wurtsboro for processing.

Bonilla was arraigned in the Town of Mamakating Court and remanded to Sullivan County Jail without bail.

He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Mamakating Court on Oct. 7 at 9:00 a.m.

A full stay-away order of protection was issued on behalf of the 21-year-old victim.
