SOUTHINGTON — Angel Luis Rivera Jr., 39, of New Britain, was arrested Sept. 17 on multiple charges including failure to appear in court and violating a protective order.

Rivera was initially arrested Sept. 2 following a family violence investigation in Southington.

He was charged with threatening in the first degree, risk of injury to a child, criminal possession of a firearm and breach of peace.

Police initially set Rivera’s bond at $1 million, but New Britain Superior Court lowered it to $100,000 on Sept. 3.

Rivera posted bond and was released with a GPS ankle monitoring device.

On Sept. 16, police were notified that Rivera had removed the GPS device and failed to appear for a scheduled court hearing.

Officers received information Sept. 17 at approximately 1:30 p.m. that Rivera was in the area of Darling Street, where a protective order prohibited him from being.

Rivera fled when officers contacted the apartment where he was believed to be staying.

He was apprehended with assistance from police K-9 Kay.

Rivera was charged with two counts of failure to appear in the first degree and four counts of violating a protective order.

His total bond was set at $1.5 million.

Rivera was unable to post bond and was transported to New Britain Superior Court on Sept. 18.

Police said additional charges are expected as the detective division continues its investigation.
