NEWPORT — The final defendant in an alleged robbery and assault that left a man beaten with a baseball bat and dragged by a car has pleaded not guilty to multiple charges.

Tyler Norris, 33, of Newport entered innocent pleas to grand larceny, aiding in aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and larceny from a person. He was charged as a habitual offender, which could significantly increase penalties if convicted.

Judge Rory Thibault released Norris on a $10,000 unsecured appearance bond. His co-defendants, David Andrew McAllister, 65, of Lowell, and Alyssa Lamadeleine, 31, of Orleans, previously pleaded not guilty to aggravated assault charges. McAllister also faces habitual offender enhancement.

According to Vermont State Police Trooper Jeffery Ferrier’s affidavit, police received a call around 9:10 a.m. on August 22 from a man reporting he had been robbed of $3,000 and assaulted in Irasburg.

Officers found the man being treated by emergency medical personnel for scrapes, cuts, and apparent road rash. The man told investigators he had been struck with a baseball bat eight to ten times and dragged by a fleeing vehicle.

The man said he had been trying to help Norris by providing construction work. When the group arrived at the Irasburg location, McAllister allegedly demanded money. When refused, Norris reportedly took $3,000 from the man’s back pocket while McAllister struck him with the bat.

During the robbery, the man reached into the car to retrieve his money but became trapped as the vehicle pulled away, dragging him eight to ten feet, according to the affidavit.

The man told investigators the attack was planned after the defendants learned he was carrying a large amount of cash following a bank withdrawal to help Lamadeleine, who was going to lose her house.

Police recovered a baseball bat from McAllister’s residence during their investigation.
