WINDSOR LOCKS — Police have arrested a North Carolina man in connection with an armed robbery that occurred at a local café in May 2023.

Dontae Willis-Green Malik was taken into custody in North Carolina on state charges and faces extradition to Connecticut, according to the Windsor Locks Police Department.

The robbery occurred on May 13, 2023, at approximately 2:15 a.m. at Blackboard Café at 541 Spring St.

Police said the victim was approached in the parking lot by a Black male, approximately 30 years old, who initially asked for money.

When the victim said he only had $10 cash, the suspect asked if he had Cash App, police said.

The suspect then produced a silver semi-automatic handgun from his waistband and placed the barrel just below the victim’s waistband while demanding all his money, according to police.

The victim complied with the demands to avoid being shot, police said.

During the robbery, the suspect told the victim he was on the run for murder in North Carolina and showed a monitoring ankle bracelet, police said.

The suspect also claimed the gun was a .40 caliber weapon before fleeing in a dark SUV westbound on Spring Street, according to police.

Investigators identified the suspect as Willis-Green Malik, born in December 1995, with a last known address on Shallowbrook Trail in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Police determined the suspect had left a hotel on Route 75 and later fled Connecticut for North Carolina.

On Dec. 23, 2023, a judge approved an arrest warrant charging Willis-Green Malik with first-degree robbery, first-degree threatening and second-degree larceny.

The judge set bond at $100,000 cash or surety and authorized extradition due to the felonious nature of the incident.
