Jamestown police arrest suspect in east second street shooting

JAMESTOWN — Officers from the Jamestown Police Department’s 3rd Platoon responded to a report of gunshots in the area of East Second Street near Cheney Street at approximately 12:58 a.m. on July 24.

Upon arrival, officers found a male victim who had been shot several times.

Officers rendered immediate medical aid to the victim at the scene.

The victim was taken to UPMC Chautauqua and later transferred to UPMC Hamot for further treatment.

According to police, the victim sustained severe injuries but is expected to survive.

Detectives from the Jamestown Police Department’s Investigative Section began an investigation into the incident.

At about 4:00 p.m. on July 24, detectives charged Xavier M. Ramos, 23, of Jamestown, in connection with the shooting.

Ramos was taken into custody without incident.

He is charged with first-degree assault and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Ramos is being held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court.
