BARTON — A Montpelier man was arrested on multiple charges including assault on a law enforcement officer after allegedly striking a trooper while attempting to destroy evidence during a Monday night arrest.

Travis Adams, 44, was taken into custody at 9:38 p.m. on Duck Pond Road following a reported disturbance.

Vermont State Police said Adams had an active warrant for second-offense driving under the influence of drugs from Lamoille County.

When troopers attempted to arrest Adams, he threw a pill bottle into tall grass in an apparent attempt to destroy evidence, police said.

Adams struck Trooper Ahmed Sharif in the head with his hand while throwing the bottle, according to police.

The pill bottle was recovered and found to contain fentanyl, police said.

Adams was charged with obstruction of justice, assault on law enforcement and possession of fentanyl.

He was processed at the Derby Barracks and later transported to Northern State Correctional Facility.

Adams was held on $1,000 bail for the new charges and $200 bail on the active warrant.
