Irondequoit man charged after shots fired at state park

IRONDEQUOIT — A Rochester man was arrested after shots were fired at Irondequoit Beach State Park early Sunday morning.

New York State Police and Irondequoit Police responded to reports of gunfire at the park at 4999 Culver Road at approximately 3:53 a.m. July 13.

Officers found a 9mm shell casing and evidence of a gunshot impact near the park’s restroom building.

Witnesses reported seeing a group altercation followed by two gunshots.

Police stopped a vehicle that was seen leaving the area without headlights and detained three people.

A loaded, unregistered 9mm handgun was found in the vehicle and secured by police.

All three occupants were taken to State Police Rochester for questioning.

Dontrell Dontrey Hughes, 22, of Rochester, was arrested and charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree and reckless endangerment in the first degree.

Hughes was transported to Monroe County Jail for arraignment.
