YONKERS — A 41-year-old Yonkers man has been charged with murder in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred early Friday morning.

Fidencio Abreu was arraigned in Westchester County Court on one count of second-degree murder and three counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.

Police responded to reports of a shooting near Ludlow Street and Riverdale Avenue at approximately 2:30 a.m. July 11.

Officers found a male victim with a single gunshot wound to the head at the scene.

The victim was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.

The victim was identified as Francisco Vallejo, 35, of Yonkers.

Preliminary findings indicate the suspect and victim knew each other and were involved in a dispute that led to the shooting.

Detectives from the Major Case Squad, Digital Forensics Unit and Crime Scene Unit investigated the incident.

Through the combined efforts of detectives, patrol units and the Yonkers Crime Control Center, investigators located Abreu at an apartment near Radford Street and Riverdale Avenue.

Abreu was taken into custody without incident.

He was remanded to the Westchester County Jail and is being held without bail.

Abreu is scheduled to return to court July 17.

The case is being prosecuted by the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office.
