BINGHAM — The Somerset County Sheriff’s Office has charged multiple juveniles, ranging in age from 9-16 years old, from the Bingham area for several recent burglaries in that town.

The charges include burglary and aggravated criminal mischief.

These charges originated from the juveniles breaking into vacant properties and causing extensive damage within the structures.

On April 24, Somerset County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the former Somerset Rehabilitation and Living Center on Owens Street in Bingham for a reported burglary.

Once on scene, deputies found that the vacant facility had been broken into and extensive damage done inside the building to include broken windows and damaged walls.

An estimate to clean up the property was over $85,000, which does not include the cost to repair the damage.

On June 26, Somerset County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the former Thompson’s Restaurant on Main Street in Bingham for a reported burglary.

Once on scene, deputies found that this vacant facility had also been entered and extensive damage done inside the building similar to what had been done at the Somerset Rehabilitation and Living Center.

The cost to repair the damage is still being assessed.

Somerset County Sheriff’s Office detectives assisted the patrol division with the investigation, and based on leads and interviews, were able to charge six juveniles with crimes related to the burglary and criminal mischief of both properties.

The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be forthcoming as the investigation progresses.
