NEW SCOTLAND — State Police arrested Paul D. Byron, 43, of New Scotland on June 29 for attempted assault in the first degree, criminal mischief in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, and menacing in the second degree.

On June 28 at about 11:48 p.m., troopers responded to reports of an altercation with a food delivery driver.

The investigation determined that the victim who was attempting to deliver food arrived at a home in New Scotland.

Byron reportedly exited the home armed with a hatchet and confronted the food delivery driver who was still in their vehicle, attempting to explain why they were at the location.

After being threatened by Byron while he held the weapon, the victim realized they were at the wrong residence and started to drive away.

Byron then used the hatchet to strike the victim’s vehicle multiple times, causing damage.

The victim was not injured during the incident and contacted law enforcement once they were in a safe location.

Byron was located at the home where the incident occurred and was taken into custody.

He was transported to State Police New Scotland for processing.

Byron was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the New Scotland Town Court on July 3 and released.
