PENN YAN — Penn Yan police arrested a 29-year-old local man during a traffic stop on Elm Street after discovering he had an active warrant for drug charges.
Nathaniel J. Hillyard of Penn Yan was taken into custody following the traffic stop conducted by Penn Yan Police Department officers.
A Department of Motor Vehicles check of the vehicle Hillyard was operating revealed he had an active arrest warrant from the city of Elmira for criminal possession of a controlled substance in the second degree.
Officers observed a male driver who matched Hillyard’s physical description before initiating the traffic stop on Elm Street.
Police made contact with the driver, who was confirmed to be Hillyard through his driver’s license.
Hillyard was taken into custody on the warrant and turned over to the Elmira Police Department.
