Orleans County COVID-19 count holding at 8 cases, Essex 1

NEWPORT — As of Friday, April 10, the total number of COVID-19 cases in Orleans County has remained at 8 according to the Vermont Health Department.

Around the Northeast Kingdom, Caledonia County also remains at 8 cases, with only 1 case in Essex County.

New data also shows only 3 cases per 10,000 people in Orleans County.

Essex County, with a population of less than 10,000, has a rate of 2 cases per 10,000 people.

There has also been no deaths from the virus reported in the NEK.

The statewide case count increased to a total of 679.

According to the Vermont Health Department, current modeling shows that the mitigation measures have slowed the projected spread of COVID-19.

State officials also announced additional measures to slow the spread of COVID-19 in certain types of group living facilities.

When a person tests positive at these facilities, everyone in the facility will be tested.

This includes nursing homes, corrections facilities, residential homes for those with disabilities, residential treatment centers, assisted living facilities and state psychiatric care facilities.

Today, Governor Phil Scott extended the State of Emergency through May 15.
