NEWPORT — North Country Hospital is welcoming six recent nursing school graduates into their 2018 Nurse Residency Program.

The nurse residency is a program for new graduate registered nurses and serves to guide in the transition from student nurse to an acute care professional nurse over an eight-month time frame.

The program provides a structured orientation to their clinical area with an experienced registered nurse guiding them.

In addition to the clinical orientation, the nurse residents attend a series of classes with a nurse educator designed to foster skill sets, help with clinical decision making, enhance patient safety and develop leadership skills.

All six students have graduated from an RN program and are busy with clinical as well as classroom work.

They are Andrea Ladouceur, Tammy Bothwell, and Cassandra Cota, all Vermont Technical College graduates, as well as Erika Millett from the University of Southern Maine, Emma Murphy from the University of St. Joseph, and Hannah Johnson from the University of Colorado.
