Morgan man accused of stealing from roommate, snatching purse from woman at Vista Foods

NEWPORT — A 32-year-old Morgan man is facing larceny charges after police say he stole several items from someone he was staying with, and snatched a woman’s purse at Vista Foods in Newport.

Police say on April 16 they were called to Derby Line after an individual alleged that Troy Guertin had stolen some items located at his residence while Guertin was staying with him.

The stolen items were estimated to be valued at $7,448, and included a computer, guns, ammunition, and tools.

Police were shown text messages from Guertin to the victim that said “I got your tools,” and “got all your stuff,” after the man confronted Guertin about the stolen items. Guertin allegedly told him he would help him get his stuff back for a price.

Just two days after police were notified about the incident in Derby Line, they were called to Vista Foods in Newport to review video survellience that showed a man steal a purse from a shopping cart, while the victim was looking at some chicken.

The video showed the man put the purse inside his coat while he quickly exited the store. The purse contained an estimated $565 worth of cash and other tiems.

Police say they recognized the man in the video as Troy Guertin, and troopers located him in Newport.

In court he pled innocent to a misdemeanor petty larceny charge, and a felony grand larceny charge.
