UTICA, NY — A 14-year-old juvenile was charged with criminal possession of a firearm after officers found a 9mm ghost gun during a vehicle stop on Faxton Street.
Officers from the Utica Police Department Tactical Unit and New York State Police conducted the stop at about 2:15 a.m. July 8 for vehicle and traffic law violations.
The stop occurred hours after officers responded to a shots fired call in the area.
Officers recognized individuals in the vehicle as being involved in recent gun violence and conducted a frisk for safety.
During the pat down, an officer felt the handle of a handgun inside a small bag belonging to one of the males.
The weapon was a 9mm ghost gun with a 31-round extended magazine.
The juvenile was detained and transported to the Utica Police Department.
He was charged with criminal possession of a firearm and released to the care of a guardian.
The male’s name was not released due to his age.
