Teen charged in flare gun shooting in Albany, NY

ALBANY, NY — A 17-year-old of Albany has been charged in connection with a flare gun shooting that occurred in the area of South Pearl Street and Schuyler Street.

On Wednesday, July 8, around 11:35 a.m., officers observed two individuals fighting.

During the altercation, the 17-year-old male shot a 41-year-old male in the face with a flare gun at close range.

The 17-year-old was taken into custody at the scene.

The victim suffered a serious laceration to his face.

He was treated on scene by the Albany Fire Department and emergency medical personnel and transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The 17-year-old, whose name will not be released due to his age, has been charged with one count of attempted assault 1st, one count of assault 2nd, and one count of criminal possession of a weapon 4th.

He was arraigned this afternoon in Albany County Family Court and released under the supervision of probation with an electronic monitoring device.
