PETERBOROUGH, NH — A 24-year-old man died following an altercation with an off-duty police officer Sunday night on Grove Street.
Jack Hutchings, of Peterborough, was found with apparent gunshot wounds and pronounced dead at the scene, according to Attorney General John M. Formella and New Hampshire State Police Colonel Mark B. Hall.
The incident occurred around 8 p.m. Sunday during an altercation involving two adult neighbors outside their residences.
An off-duty Peterborough Police Department officer was found suffering from apparent stab wounds and remains hospitalized.
An autopsy on Hutchings was completed Monday by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
The cause and manner of death will be made public pending next of kin notifications.
Investigators are examining whether the person who shot Hutchings acted in self-defense.
