Wrong-way driver arrested on I-84 in Southeast

SOUTHEAST, NY — New York State Police arrested a Germantown man on felony and misdemeanor charges after he was found driving the wrong way on Interstate 84 on June 28, 2026.

State Police were notified by Dutchess County 911 at approximately 1:38 a.m. of a vehicle traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Interstate 84 near mile marker 57.0 in the Town of East Fishkill.

Members of the New York State Police in Brewster, with the assistance of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, located a 2024 GMC traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Interstate 84 near mile marker 66 in the Town of Southeast.

Troopers successfully deployed a tire deflation device, bringing the vehicle to a stop.

During the investigation, the operator and sole occupant, identified as Edward Navedo, 41, of Germantown, exhibited signs of intoxication.

Navedo was taken into custody and transported to State Police Brewster for processing, where he submitted to a chemical breath test that yielded a blood alcohol content of 0.19 percent.

Navedo was charged with reckless endangerment in the first degree, a Class D felony; aggravated driving while intoxicated, an unclassified misdemeanor; driving while intoxicated, an unclassified misdemeanor; and reckless driving, an unclassified misdemeanor.

Navedo was arraigned in the Town of Kent Court and released on his own recognizance.

He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Southeast Court on July 9, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.
