Electric scooter operator dies after crash in Granby

GRANBY, NY — A 31-year-old man died following a single-vehicle crash involving a stand-up electric scooter on July 3.

Dylan C. Scheller of Oswego was operating the scooter northbound on State Route 48 when he failed to negotiate a turn at approximately 7 a.m., according to New York State Police.

The scooter traveled onto the eastern shoulder and struck a utility pole near Melrose Avenue.

Scheller was alert when emergency responders arrived and was initially believed to have sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

He was transported to Oswego Hospital, where he later died from what are believed to be internal injuries.

Scheller was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, but the helmet became dislodged during the collision.

An autopsy will be conducted by the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the official cause and manner of death.

Members of the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded to the scene.
