NEW HARTFORD, NY — Two people face criminal charges following a June dispute on Valley View Road that involved a weapon and led to the discovery of firearms and drugs.
New Hartford police responded to a report of a dispute between two individuals on Valley View Road on June 13, 2026.
During the argument, one person allegedly struck the other person’s vehicle with a metal rod, according to police.
That person was later observed holding an unlawful short barrel Mossberg shotgun while standing in a driveway of a residence as the argument continued, police said.
Officers secured the scene and recovered the shotgun along with several additional firearms.
During the investigation, officers also located unlawfully possessed high-capacity rifle magazines and a quantity of suspected heroin at the residence.
Police arranged for the parties to be separated.
Shawn Guernsey, 35, of New Hartford, was charged with felony criminal possession of a weapon, misdemeanor criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a misdemeanor.
He was remanded to Oneida County Jail in lieu of bail.
Alexandria Watson, 31, of New Hartford, was charged with menacing in the second degree, a misdemeanor, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, a misdemeanor, and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a misdemeanor.
She was released on her own recognizance.
Both were arraigned in New Hartford Town Court.
