Single-car crash ends in Black River in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, VT — A vehicle crashed into the Black River on June 27, 2026, after experiencing brake failure on South Street.

The single-car crash occurred near the intersection of South Street and Main Street.

No injuries were reported as a result of the crash.

Police determined the crash was caused by a brake failure at the top of South Street near Union Street.

The vehicle picked up speed going down the hill before ending up in the Black River.

Officer Erwin investigated the incident with assistance from Sgt. Perkins and Ofc. Lewis-Briere.

Springfield Fire and EMS, Chester Water Rescue and Reed Towing also responded to the scene.
