ELMIRA, NY — A 16-year-old was arrested early Tuesday after police discovered the juvenile in possession of a loaded ghost gun.

Officers from the Elmira Police Department heard six to seven gunshots coming from the city’s east side at approximately 1:58 a.m.

Police responded to the area of East Second Street and High Street, where a group of individuals was standing on the sidewalk.

During conversation with the group, officers discovered the juvenile was in possession of a loaded 9mm privately manufactured semi-automatic handgun, commonly known as a ghost gun, loaded with four live rounds of 9mm ammunition.

The location is the same intersection where a confirmed shooting occurred five days earlier, where multiple rounds were recovered.

The juvenile was arrested without incident and taken to the Elmira Police Department.

The juvenile was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a class C felony.

The Elmira Police Department is asking anyone with information regarding the gunshots or shooting to call 607-737-5626 or the tip line at 271-HALT.
