COVENTRY, CT — Police arrested a 45-year-old woman on an arrest warrant June 25, 2026.

Anai Martinez-Cortes, of Coventry, was charged with seven counts of cruelty to animals.

The investigation began in April when police discovered seven dogs had been left inside an approximate four by six-foot wooden structure with little to no ventilation for an extended period of time.

There was one adult Pitbull and six Pitbull puppies left in the structure on a Ripley Hill Road property.

All but one of the dogs died in the structure.

One of the puppies survived and is in the care of a family member.

Martinez-Cortes was held on a $150,000 court set bond.

She was arraigned June 26, 2026 at Superior Court in Rockville.

She was released at court on a promise to appear and the case was continued to July 30, 2026.
