Maine attempted murder suspect arrested in Guilderland

GUILDERLAND, NY — Patrol officers arrested a Maine attempted murder suspect Monday after a license plate reader detected a stolen vehicle in town.

Officers received a Flock Safety license plate reader alert at approximately 9:10 a.m. indicating that a vehicle reported stolen in Maine had been detected in Guilderland.

Officers located the green Toyota SUV traveling near Western Avenue and Carman Road.

A high-risk traffic stop was conducted, and the driver was safely taken into custody without incident.

The vehicle was confirmed to have been reported stolen by a law enforcement agency in Bangor, Maine.

Investigation revealed that the vehicle had been stolen from a residence in Bangor on June 20.

During that incident, the vehicle’s owner was stabbed and sustained critical injuries.

Abel Perez, 37, of Bangor, Maine, was arrested by the Guilderland Police Department and charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Third Degree.

Perez was arraigned and released by Guilderland Town Court for the Guilderland criminal charge.

Perez is currently being held by the Albany County Sheriff’s Office as a Fugitive from Justice pending extradition to Maine, where he faces charges including Attempted Murder.

The Albany County Sheriff’s Office assisted in this case.
