ROME, NY — Members of the Rome Police Department’s Patrol Division arrested five people early Tuesday morning after observing suspicious activity at a local wellness center.
Officers were conducting routine patrol in the 200 block of West Liberty Street at about 2:10 a.m. when they overheard loud noises and observed lights coming from the parking lot of Kabari Wellness Center.
Upon entering the parking lot, officers observed an unidentified masked male running from the area and a dark-colored pickup truck leaving the parking lot.
Following a brief foot pursuit, the male was detained, and the pickup truck was subsequently located and stopped a few blocks away.
During the investigation at Kabari, officers located several sections of copper piping that had been removed and placed outside the business.
Additional copper piping was located in the truck bed.
The driver of the vehicle, Kenneth Bean, 59, of Rome, along with four juvenile male occupants, were taken into custody.
Bean was transported to Rome Police Headquarters and charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree.
He was issued an appearance ticket and released pending a future court date.
The four juvenile males were also transported to the Rome Police Department and charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree.
Their identities are being withheld due to their age.
The Rome Police Department Patrol Division was assisted by the Rome Police Department Detective Division and Juvenile Aid Division.
