ELMIRA, NY — Police are investigating a shooting that occurred early Thursday morning in the city.
Elmira Police officers responded to the area of East Second Street and High Street at approximately 1:31 a.m. for a report of multiple gunshots being fired.
Officers arrived on scene and found evidence of a shooting in the area, including spent shell casings.
Officers also located a vehicle nearby on East Third Street that had been struck by gunfire and was involved in a motor vehicle accident.
The vehicle was unoccupied when officers arrived.
A firearm was also recovered from that vehicle.
Several hours later, officers who were monitoring the area observed two males return to the scene.
The two males were stopped by police.
During that stop, one of the males was found to have suffered a gunshot wound he claimed did not need medical attention and provided no further cooperation.
No other victims have been reported at this time.
The Elmira Police Department was assisted by the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office and the West Elmira Police Department.
