New York State Police were notified by the St. Regis Mohawk Tribal Police Department of an active pursuit involving a black Volkswagen Passat traveling westbound on State Highway 37.

The vehicle continued through the towns of Massena and Louisville and was ultimately located by State Police parked on the shoulder of State Highway 37 in the town of Waddington.

Troopers activated emergency lights and positioned a marked patrol vehicle behind the Passat.

As troopers approached, the operator and sole occupant partially lowered the driver’s side window and spoke with members.

During the interaction, troopers observed signs consistent with impairment.

Troopers instructed the operator to exit the vehicle, however she refused to comply.

A second State Police patrol vehicle arrived and positioned in front of the Passat.

The operator was identified as Brooklyn A. Oakes, 20, of Hogansburg.

During the pursuit, Oakes swerved toward and struck a State Police patrol vehicle, disabling it.

Oakes continued into the town of Louisville before turning around and traveling westbound on State Highway 37.

Members of the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office successfully deployed a tire deflation device, causing the vehicle to become disabled.

While troopers attempted to remove Oakes from the vehicle, she actively resisted.

Oakes was ultimately taken into custody without injury and transported to SP Massena.

Oakes provided a breath sample that revealed a blood alcohol concentration of .22 percent.

Oakes was charged with criminal mischief in the 2nd degree, two counts of obstructing governmental administration in the 2nd degree, unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle in the 3rd degree, six counts of reckless endangerment in the 2nd degree, resisting arrest and aggravated driving while intoxicated.
