Man charged with grand larceny in Champlain

CHAMPLAIN, NY — New York State Police charged John E. Cornmire, 32, of Poland, with Grand Larceny in the Third Degree and Issuing a Bad Check on June 22, 2026.

State Police responded to State Route 9 in the town of Champlain on May 4, 2026, at approximately 2:55 p.m. for a report of a bad check.

An investigation determined that Cornmire issued the victim a check in the amount of $3,123.36, which was later returned due to insufficient funds.

Investigators determined that multiple attempts by the victim to contact Cornmire regarding the payment were unsuccessful.

Members of the New York State Police worked in conjunction with the Clinton County District Attorney’s Office during the investigation.

Cornmire was processed at SP Champlain and subsequently arraigned in the Town of Champlain Court, where he was released on his own recognizance.
