Man charged with vehicle burglary in Palisades Park

PALISADES PARK, NJ — Police have arrested a 19-year-old man following an investigation into a motor vehicle burglary and credit card fraud.

Hakeem T. Grant, of Jersey City, was charged with burglary to a motor vehicle, theft and fraudulent use of a credit card, Police Chief George Beck announced June 18.

The incident occurred May 24 at approximately 9:28 a.m. in the area of E. Edsall Boulevard and Hillside Avenue.

Patrol Detective Michael McDermott and Patrol Officers Frank Martini, Travis Bennet and Chang Han responded to a report of a burglary to a gray Ford F-150.

The vehicle’s owner reported that a wallet containing several credit cards and approximately $300 in cash had been stolen.

The victim also reported receiving two recent alerts for credit card transactions at a McDonald’s in Bayonne and a BP gas station in North Bergen.

McDermott traveled to the locations of the fraudulent transactions and conducted follow-up work and evidence review.

McDermott identified Grant as the suspect and subsequently charged and served him.
