Driver killed in head-on crash in Columbia

COLUMBIA, NH — A 25-year-old woman died and five others were hospitalized following a head-on collision on Route 3.

New Hampshire State Police responded to the crash just after 9 p.m. Friday on Route 3 in Coös County.

A preliminary investigation determined that a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling southbound and a 2012 Chevrolet Camaro was driving northbound when the Camaro crossed the centerline and struck the Silverado head-on, causing severe damage.

The driver and sole occupant of the Camaro, Courtney Diamond, 25, of Pelham, New Hampshire, succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Silverado was occupied by a family of five, including two adults and three children.

All five were transported to Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook, two with non-life-threatening injuries and three with life-threatening injuries.

All five were later transferred to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.

Several good Samaritans stopped to assist the occupants of both vehicles.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by members of the Colebrook police and fire departments, New Hampshire Fish and Game Department, Pittsburg Police Department, Stratford Fire Department and 45th Parallel EMS.

Route 3 was closed for approximately three and a half hours while troopers conducted their on-scene investigation.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
