BRIDGEWATER, NJ — A 19-year-old man has been charged in connection with a fatal head-on collision that killed one person and injured three others.

Dylan A. Baez, of Bridgewater, was charged Wednesday with first-degree vehicular homicide, second-degree assault by auto and two counts of third-degree assault by auto.

The crash occurred at 9:41 p.m. Saturday on Finderne Avenue near the intersection of Van Veghten Drive.

Police responded to find a two-car accident involving a Honda and a Kia.

Baez, who was driving the Honda, was transported to an area trauma hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.

The driver of the Kia, Joel R. Dominguez-Cruz, of Piscataway, suffered critical injuries and was transported to a local trauma hospital where he later died.

Three passengers in the Kia were also transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Members of the Somerset County Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit responded to investigate along with members of the Bridgewater Police Department Traffic Safety Unit.

Based on roadway evidence, investigators determined that the Honda was traveling north when it crossed over the centerline into the southbound lane, striking the Kia head-on.

Baez was served with his complaints by officers from the Bridgewater Township Police Department.

Upon discharge from the hospital, Baez will be lodged at the Somerset County Jail pending a detention hearing.
