SPRINGFIELD, MA — A police sergeant rescued a suicidal man from the Memorial Bridge on Tuesday night.

Springfield Police officers and a BHN clinician were dispatched to the Hall of Fame Avenue area and Memorial Bridge at approximately 9:40 p.m. for a report of psychiatric behavior.

Members of the Springfield Police Real-Time Analysis Center updated responding officers that a man was over the railing, being held onto by two females who were later determined to be family members.

Springfield Police Sgt. Alan Wine quickly arrived, rushed out of his cruiser and pulled the man back over the railing as his family members continued to hold on.

The subject was transported to the hospital to receive help.
