Man arrested on warrant in Olean

OLEAN, NY — A man wanted in connection with a police pursuit was arrested June 12.

Eric R. Smith, 36, of Olean, was taken into custody at 6:12 p.m. by deputies of the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office assigned to the Seneca Nation Allegany Territory.

Smith was initially located by the City of Olean Police Department and was found to have an active warrant for his arrest from a pursuit in the Town of Carrollton with the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office that occurred on May 1.

Smith was transported to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office Olean Substation for processing.

Smith was processed and issued an appearance ticket and multiple uniform traffic tickets for the following charges: unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle in the third degree, aggravated unlicensed operation 3rd degree, reckless driving, speed in zone (3 counts), speeding in a posted work zone, failed to stop at stop sign, following too close, moved from lane unsafely, and unsafe turn/failure to signal.

Smith is due in the Town of Carrollton Court at a later date.

Smith was then transported to the Cattaraugus County Jail where he was held as he had an active warrant for his arrest out of New York State Parole.
