WEST RUTLAND, VT — Vermont State Police arrested a 48-year-old man on charges of computer fraud and identity theft following an investigation into unauthorized transfers from a Cash App account.
Adalberto Blake, of West Rutland, was issued a citation to appear in court on June 13, 2026, after being taken into custody on an unrelated offense.
Police at the Rutland barracks began investigating in February after receiving a report that $1,000 had been taken without authorization from the Cash App account of Taylor Darling, 30, of West Rutland.
The money was transferred using Darling’s iPhone to another account, according to police.
Investigators determined that Blake obtained the personal identifying information of Brandylee Darling, 27, of Springfield, without her knowledge or consent.
Blake used that information to create a fictitious Cash App account in Brandylee Darling’s name, police said.
The unauthorized transfer was initiated and completed using Taylor Darling’s iPhone, according to police.
The money was transferred to an account held solely by Blake, and numerous purchases were made shortly after receipt of the stolen funds, police said.
Blake was charged with access to computer for fraudulent purposes and identity theft.
