Man charged with domestic violence assault in Kennebunk

KENNEBUNK, ME — A 75-year-old man was arrested Thursday following a domestic violence incident that prompted a police standoff.

The Kennebunk Police Department received a 911 call at 8:24 p.m. from a resident on Caly Hollow Road reporting a domestic disturbance involving threats of violence with a firearm.

The victim told officers the individual may have been under the influence of substances and had access to multiple firearms within the residence.

She also reported that the individual had prevented her from contacting law enforcement during the incident.

Officers established a perimeter around the residence and attempted to make contact with the individual.

Multiple attempts to communicate by telephone were unsuccessful, though officers confirmed the individual remained inside the home.

The department requested assistance from the Southern Maine Special Response Team.

After the team deployed, the suspect came out of the house and surrendered to police.

Walter Hearn, of Kennebunk, was charged with Domestic Violence Assault, Domestic Violence Criminal Threatening, and Obstructing the Report of a Crime.

The Kennebunk Police Department was assisted by the Southern Maine Special Response Team and Kennebunk Fire Rescue.
